Sake, new kid on the flinders lane block. A contemporary Japanese fusion restaurant and the second sake restaurant to open in Melbourne, the other being at Hamer Hall. From the moment you enter you can't help but being impressed, the venue itself is truly amazing, it's vibrant decor and the aroma drifting through from the kitchen set you up for a great evening.
It started with the warm greeting from the hostess who went out of her way to make us feel welcome. This continued with every star member we had contact with. Our waiter certainly knew his product, and guided us through the menu making selections that suited our tastes.
We started off with with the pickled vegetables, and what a great start to the meal it was. The most surprising was the pickled watermelon, it's hard to describe, but certainly worth a try.
I had the beef tataki shichimi togarashi with salted plum next, and wow what a dish, refreshing and full of flavour.
Next to arrive was the chicken breast yakitori with wasabi and umami glaze. The only complaint was it just wasn't big enough.
Roast chicken dashi with toasted rye noodles was next and yes another winner.
The food and service at sake is up there with the best, and if your into Japanese food then you won't be disappointed. The prices are a little in the high side but the quality is well worth it.
